Animals

Being Green Fields born and a knight, it'd be odd for me to not have animals in my life. I do, and every one of them makes life a little more interesting.

Dog

"Dog. I remember the first time I saw this creature. He was only half his size, scrawny, dirty, and running amuck in the castle stables. I remember the Empress being there and laughing as I tried to catch him. I think she ended up coaxing him to her. I hated this dog at first. I tried giving him away to the Claremonts, but the boy didn't seem interested. What boy doesn't want a dog of his own? The Duchess was on her way back to Draught at the time, and she said she would come for Dog once she returned, but she never did. It was a blessing in disguise. Dog was a grand companion. He was becoming a rather good retriever,  even though he got into everything. I thought i lost him once, but he ended up coming home on his own. I didn't realize how fond I was of him until he was killed the day of the demon attack. The brave fool. The guards told me that he was protecting the jailhouse and tried to attack a lesser demon. From what I heard, he did an admirable job even though he did fall in the end. It surprised me how heartbroken I was. I should have given him a proper name. The jailhouse is far too quiet without him."

Little Dog

"Dog's son ... Or at least, I think he is. It was just a few weeks after Dog's death that I found this one wandering around the Gateway east, looking scrawny, dirty, and more than a little hungry. So, I brought him home and here he is. Nothing can replace Dog, but this little one does make my days a little more interesting, and he helps to fill the void."

Sandstorm

"My horse of war, Sandstorm. This stallion was a gift from His Majesty himself, and I've never been more proud of any horse. He is a fine specimen and easy to ride. His bravery has been proven to me time and again, the latest incident being the demon attack. He shows no fear, does not hesitate, and obeys every command perfectly. When I am upon him, we move as one, and I've ridden no horse faster. He is truly a prize, and I am grateful to have him as my own. My very first horse."

Ares

"This was the horse that I cared for when I was a squire. Sir something-or-another promised me that I could have him once I was knighted. Well, when that day came and I received Sandstorm as the Emperor's gift, Ares was more or less ... forgotten. I still see him in the stables, and to my knowledge no knight has claimed him. This doesn't mean that he wouldn't make an excellent warhorse. I know that he has the attitude for it. We've done a lot together, and I've ridden him more than even Sandstorm. When I am in the castle stables, I still visit him and ride him every now and then. Perhaps one day I'll claim him too."
